Flee or Fight

One of the controversies of the week has been about a gratuitous rape scene from popular show ‘Game of Thrones’.  I’ve never seen the show but you’d be hard-pressed to miss the fall-out.  People are angry, rightfully so, that rape is being stylized and repackaged as sexy and edgy, for entertainment.

On the other side of the coin, you have the Duggar controversy- again you’d be hard-pressed to miss that.  Long story short- Josh Duggar (now 27) did some extremely inappropriate stuff as a 14 year old.  Apparently the family handled it the best they could and moved on with their lives.  Josh learned his lesson and repented and apparently hasn’t re-offended.

I think the Game of Thrones thing is satanic, I really do.  The Devil is called the ‘Prince of the Power of the Air’ and ‘the Prince of the World’.  God gave us our sexuality and guidelines to express it in a healthy way that (literally) brings life.  Satan wants to pervert it into something that brings death.

“Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?” Proverbs 6:27

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18

Sexual sin can get ahold on you like nothing else.  It is like a demonic hook that the devil can use to yank you around and get you to do his bidding.  And like any addiction- it always demands more.

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.” Romans 1:24 ..because ‘they exchanged the truth about God for a lie.’

When you watch entertainment that promotes a distorted view of sexuality you are allowing those lies to seep in and infect your soul.

The lie looks appealing and obviously many fall into Satan’s trap, but it always leads to death.

I have become personally involved with a young girl recently, a young girl who needs help because her Dad was recently arrested and awaiting sentencing for the worst crime imaginable.  This man’s wickedness (there really isn’t a better term) has left his family traumatized beyond belief.

The war is real.  The casualties are real.  Sexual sin is not harmless fun.  So much rides on our willingness to honor God with our sexuality.  The consequences are dire when we don’t.

So what can we do?

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

I’ve said it before but there are no bystanders.  You are either advancing the Kingdom of Heaven against the gates of Hell or you are a prisoner of war.  If the enemy has gotten some sort of ‘hook’ in your soul you need to repent and renounce it and plead the blood of Jesus over it.  We are all either yielded to the Lord Jesus or the enemy of our souls.  There is no middle ground.  Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?” Romans 6:16

I am standing in the gap for this little girl and her family.  I will talk about this ‘taboo’ subject because we can not just ignore it and hope it will go away.

Realize that if you are a believer and filled with the Spirit of God this is your life’s mission statement-

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion– to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:1-3

Lets refuse to compromise.  Amen.
